As I conclude this month-long blog series on the Auxano Communication Approach©, I’ll leave you with a quote from the end of Chapter 13 of The Stories We Tell Ourselves:
“Remember that the ultimate goal of these steps [the Auxano Communication Approach©] is not to gain control over the relationship, but rather to see, hear, and understand the other person as a human just like yourself, one with their own thoughts, feelings, and motivations.”
The approach to better communication that I espouse for all of my clients—and try to live up to in my own life as well—seeks one chief goal: humanizing.
The four steps of the Auxano Communication Approach© are all centered around seeing, hearing, and understanding the real, live, actual, breathing person in front of you instead of mentally interacting with the made-up, fictional, false, untrue fabrication of that person who’s running around in your head with little to no connection to reality.
When one person begins working to humanize the other, a relationship can grow. But when both people in the relationship choose to humanize each other by dealing with the real person in front of them, a relationship can thrive.
If you don’t believe me, go back and read the last month’s worth of posts about the Auxano Communication Approach©. Begin to incorporate my suggestions into your life and see what happens.
It may not be easy, especially at first, but give it time.
You may surprise yourself, and even more importantly, you may surprise those you love the most
